Our last inspection – November 2019
Following our recent Ofsted inspection on 19th and 20th November 2019, we are pleased to be able to share our report with you.
This inspection was carried out using a new inspection framework which came into place in September 2019.
It was a full section 5 inspection, meaning that judgments were awarded for all areas:
- Quality of Education
- Behaviour and attitudes
- Personal development
- Leadership and management
- Early years provision
A judgement of overall effectiveness is then awarded.
Although the overall grading of the school has changed, a number of areas were judged to as good. We feel that the report is a fair reflection of our strengths and the areas which we are already working on to improve. We are particularly proud of the fact that the inspectors commented that the children were delightful and that it is clear that children enjoy coming to school and are ‘buzzing’ about the new curriculum. It was also recognised that there are strong systems in place for phonics and early reading as well as support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Where changes have been put in place (for example for approaches to reading in KS2 and writing across the school) there is evidence of a positive effect, especially in writing due to the progress seen in books and the high standards achieved in class.
As a school we now need to ensure that we continue to work on the development of our new curriculum in foundation subjects such as history, geography and music so that it is carefully sequenced as well as ensuring that the impact of the work of pupils and staff is reflected in our end of Year 6 results. 2019 outcomes at KS2 were a significant improvement on 2018, and we are confident that this improving trend will continue in 2020.
