Year 4 Multiplication check meeting
Dear parents/carers of Year 4,
As part of the statutory assessment programme, Year 4 will be taking part in the Multiplication Tables Check between Monday 1st June and Friday 12th June.
The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all Year 4 pupils. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help us to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
The government expectation is that all children know all times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4 to enable them to access the maths curriculum as they move into Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 & 6). Not knowing these, hinders their ability to work at speed and work out more complex questions.
On Tuesday 10th March, we will be holding a parent meeting at 3.30pm to further explain how the assessment will work and how you can support your child at home.
We ask that all parents attend this meeting, the children are also welcome to attend and hear the messages so that we can ensure that all children are ready for this assessment in June and the move into Year 5.
Kind regards,
Miss Hughes
Year 4 Year group leader
