Swimming for Year 5 - 5 Snowdon
As part of the National Curriculum for PE, each child is entitled to swimming lessons provided at no cost. We are very pleased to be able to once again provide this now that it has been deemed safe by the government.
It is usually Year 4 who have swimming lessons as part of the PE offer; as the year 5 children missed out last year, GLL are running intensive catch up swimming courses for them.
Your child’s class will have swimming lessons every day for the week commencing Monday June 14th at Thamesmead swimming baths. They will travel by coach which will pick pupils up at 10.40 am and return to school in time for lunch.
On the first day, there will be a safety talk given, followed by three swimming instructors taking small groups to be assessed.
Children will be awarded certificates, which will be put in a wallet and given to the school teacher at the end of the week.
Please ensure your child brings with them each day:
- A one piece bathing suit for girls - no two piece bikinis please
- swimming shorts for boys - no knee length shorts please
- A towel
- A swimming hat
NO jewellery AT ALL to be worn in the swimming baths.
All property needs to be clearly marked with your child’s name.
Swimming and COVID 19
Public Health England have stated that it is generally safe to go swimming at this time. Extra measures have been put in place at the pool to ensure it is Covid secure – a copy of these are attached. Staff travelling with the children will be familiar with these measures before lessons commence.
