Start of term email from Headteacher

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that you have all had a good break and that those of you celebrate Easter or Eid have had a lovely time with your family and friends. Whilst the weather has been a little hit and miss, I hope that you have all managed to do something in the sunshine.

I took my children to Canary Wharf on the Elizabeth Line to do the Paws on the Wharf free trail, looking for large dog sculptures all decorated by artists in support of Guide Dogs. There are 25 in total. As dog lovers and the owner of a Labrador, it was a perfect afternoon out for us! It is running until the 17th May so a great free local visit out (apart from travel). https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/paws-on-the-wharf/

Over the break there have been some works carried out in the school. You will notice new fencing around the KS2 quiet area, new fencing in the Reception outside area and new grass in the Nursery outside area. They will be back to finish the nursery internal fencing soon as sadly the gates weren’t back from the factory in time. It looks really smart. Thank you to our nursery parents for supporting us with our closure on the 28th March to enable staff to prepare for these works.

Mr Lewis has also filled in the old pond which we will be turning into a sensory garden – keep an eye out for requests for help with this!

The term begins next week on Monday 15th April and we look forward to seeing everyone return!

Before we return, a few reminders…

Uniform

We expect all children in appropriate uniform at all times, this includes PE kits which should not include branded items with slogans.

https://www.delucyprimaryschool.co.uk/Parents/Uniform/

PLEASE ensure that your child’s name is in jumpers and coats. Over the school year we have collected a huge amount of unnamed lost property that has not been claimed. This has now all been washed and our Foodbank Monitors will be organising a preloved uniform sale soon.

Trim trail in KS1 playground

Children are welcome to play on this at the end of the school day with parent supervision at the area. Please ensure that all children are with you if you are lining up to collect children.

Cookhill Road – Schoolstreets

For a number of years we have been a Schoolstreets school, this means that Cookhill Road to closed to vehicles (apart from those of residents) between 8-9.30am and 3-4pm. The signage is the legislation and all drivers have a duty to adhere to this. No one is exempt. Please help to keep our school community safe by NOT driving down Cookhill Road during these times.

Trips and Visits

Please stick to the deadlines to give consent, which is collected via Evolve. You will receive an email with a link. It takes staff time to chase late consent and also means that staff cannot complete risk assessments etc.

If we have have requested that parents make a contribution towards a trip, these are to be paid via the Schoolgateway. The school is subsiding the full cost, however, if we do not collect enough contributions we may need to cancel the trip as we always have to pay in advance. We are currently asking Year 4 (£5) and Year 3 (£3.50)  to contribute towards upcoming trips ahead of the start of term. Your support is appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday,

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Lodge
