Spring 2 Attendance initiative starts now!

Dear parents and carers

As you are aware, attendance is a big focus here at De Lucy as research shows that children are more likely to build sustainable friendships and make good progress in their learning if they have good school attendance. This year, for the first time, the Department of Education has also set all schools individual attendance targets based on the previous year’s attendance, we are currently above this by 0.2% and hope to improve this further as the year continues.

Today in assembly we launched our Spring 2 attendance initiative which started today and will run until the last day of term (27th March 2026). The aim of this term is for as many children as possible to reach attendance of 96% or more. There are 25 days in the half term.

  • If children attend 24 out of the 25 days they will have 96% attendance and will be presented with an ‘Amazing attendance’ pin badge to wear with pride.
  • If they attend 100% of the 25 days they will receive a badge and a special pencil.

For this half term we will also be changing how we award the attendance of the week certificate to classes. Usually it is the class with the highest attendance. For this term only we will be working out which percentage of the class has attended 96% or more for the week and that class will be awarded with the certificate that week. This will now be shared on a Monday in assembly rather on a Friday at celebration assembly.

During this period there will also be awards for improved attendance where we have seen significant improvement in attendance or punctuality.

Each week we review attendance closely and follow the RBG attendance processes if attendance drops below 95%, this begins with a letter letting you know that attendance is now below 95%. We know that at times children are unwell and not able to come to school, it is important that they rest and recover, however we also know that on occasions there are not suitable reasons for children not to be in school. These are the absences we are keen to stop. We are also keen to reduce lateness as minutes late all add up. Did you also know that if your child arrives 30 minutes after their register closes (9.15am for nursery and 9.30am for Reception to Year 6) that this late is recorded as an unauthorised absence?

We look forward to celebrating success by giving out lots of badges and pencils at the end of term!

Kind regards

Mrs Lodge
