REMINDER - Year 6 meeting on Monday 2nd February

Year 6 SATs Parent meeting – Monday 2ndFebruary

All parents/carers to attend please

Dear Parents/carers

As you are aware, all Year 6 pupils will be sitting their Key Stage 2 SATs assessments in May this year. This letter is to inform you that we have our SATs information session for all parents/carers at 4pm on Monday 2nd February.

SATs are external assessments and measure pupils’ progress in Reading, SPaG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar) and Maths. The results of these assessments are important for Year 6 pupils as they are a measure of their progress from Year 2 to Year 6. They are also used by secondary schools as an indicator of a pupil’s ability.

At the meeting, we will:

•outline the process, timings and expectations

•show examples of the types of tests they will be sitting (share last year’s examples)

•discuss additional arrangements for any children with additional needs

•share tips on how you can support your child in the lead up to, and during, the assessments

We know that you understand how important it is for us to work together to support our Year 6 pupils to achieve their best in these assessments and beyond. We therefore ask that all parents/carers attend and bring their child with them.

Whilst we understand that many of you have older children who have already been through this process, it is still important for you to attend so that we can go through the process with you and your child. This will not only show a united, supportive approach but will also help to reduce any worries that your child may have about the upcoming tests. In the last couple of years, the expectation within the assessments has changed and the demands on the children have increased. At the meeting, you will be able to see previous test papers and have a good understanding about what your child will be expected to do before leaving primary school.

Kind regards

Mrs Richardson
