REMINDER Covid-19 symptoms and testing
Dear Parents and Carers
It is essential that if anyone in your household is displaying any symptoms of Covid-19 that your household isolates immediately and the person with symptoms books a PCR test at a test centre, NOT a lateral flow test. If you are unsure whether you should bring your child to school or not, please phone the school and ask. Do not bring your child to school.
Lateral flows tests are for asymptomatic routine testing. They are not suitable for use when someone is showing symptoms.
As a school, we need to ensure that we are keeping everyone as safe as possible and that means that if you are asked to book a PCR test, your child/ren will not be allowed back in school until we have seen a negative PCR test result or when 10 days of isolation as passed. This is not us being awkward, this is following the rules which are expected. If you attend a testing centre, many results are being returned in 24 hours.
PCR tests can be booked via https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
Use this service to order a test if you have at least one of these 3 coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms:
- a high temperature
- a new, continuous cough
- you’ve lost your sense of smell or taste or it’s changed
Unfortunately, a small number of parents are not following the government advice of the above. This not only puts our school community at risk, but it also takes up a considerable amount of staff time calling parents and isolating children from their peers which should not be happening. In some cases staff have also experienced resistance from parents which I am afraid is not acceptable as staff are doing their job in line with not only our school risk assessment but also government guidelines.
Thank you for your support with this matter,
