National Numeracy Day - 20th May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Wednesday 20th May, we will be celebrating National Numeracy Day. This year, the theme is “Count on your community” with the aim to highlight the vital role communities play in building confidence with numbers.

In school, we will be doing some fun activities, challenges and games to celebrate Numeracy Day.

Additionally, there is a national competition that children have been invited to enter. The task is for children to create a picture of how people use numbers in their community. We will send home the entry sheets then parents/carers will need to follow the instructions on the bottom of the page to upload their child’s entry.

There are prizes being awarded for the best images!

An example of the types of things children might draw are

  • A shop with price tags like “£2” or “10 apples”
  • A bus with route numbers/bus timetable
  • A football scoreboard showing the score
  • A clock tower showing the time
  • A doctor’s office with a waiting number
  • A road sign showing speed limits
  • A calendar with dates circled

It would be great for children to understand how they use maths in their everyday life and to have as many entries as possible!

Yours Sincerely

Mrs Rutley
