Request for help with technology

The Department for Education (DfE) has given us information regarding how pupils of disadvantaged families can get help with technology.

Devices

The school has been allocated 57 Chromebooks which have been allocated to families along with additional devices owned by the school. Any devices provided for remote learning are expected to be used in line with the loan agreement. If these are not used as expected (ie remote learning is not undertaken), the devices will be recalled and will be expected to be back in school within 24 hours of the recall.

Who is eligible for extra mobile data

We can request extra mobile data for disadvantaged children who:

  • have no broadband connection at home

  • cannot afford additional data

One of the following must also apply. They are children:

  • in years 3 to 11 and whose face-to-face education is disrupted

  • who are clinically extremely vulnerable and need to shield on current official advice (this could be from a doctor or hospital consultant)

  • who live in a household that’s been advised to shield because a family member is clinically extremely vulnerable

  • who cannot attend school – even though theirs is open – because restrictions prevent it

Who can get help

This schemes is open to children and young people who:

  • don’t have access to a fixed broadband connection

  • cannot afford the additional data needed to access educational resources or social care services

  • have access to a mobile device that uses a participating network

  • are facing disruption to their face-to-face education, or have been advised not to attend school

What information will we need to collect

  • account holder’s name

  • mobile number (a number beginning with ‘07’)

  • mobile network

  • pay monthly or pay as they go

Please click on the link below to view the DfE privacy notice for the account holder.

What data someone will get depends on their mobile network. Some networks can’t offer data to Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) customers.

Once you have provided the information we will be able to confirm

  • if there is an offer you can use (or if there is no offer available)

  • the details of that offer

  • that they’ll receive a text message when their free data has been activated

  • when their free data will end

  • that this data can be used when tethering a mobile phone to another device for internet access

If you would like to request this extra data, please contact the school office by:

- phoning 020 8310 5290 option 8 during office opening hours

- send a message via Schoolcomms

- email info@delucy.greenwich.sch.uk
