Learning spellings is an important part of the English curriculum and there are set words and spelling lists that children need to learn throughout their time at school.
This year (2023-2024), we have decided not to use the home spelling books, but instead will be sending spelling lists home on sheets, which will contain your child’s previous test score. We hope that by sharing this weekly it will keep you up to date with your child’s learning. The spelling sheet will have space for five attempts per word, and of course, feel free to also use the back to apply the spellings in sentences or for further practise.
Spellings will be tested on a Friday, unless this is not possible, such as due to a school trip. New spellings will be sent home by the end of Monday.
Below are some ideas for spelling practise at home.
If you have any questions about the spellings that your child is set, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
